In a devastating incident on the outskirts of Vadodara city in Gujarat, 14 students and two teachers lost their lives after a boat overturned in Harni lake during a picnic. The ill-fated incident occurred in the afternoon, leading to a heartbreaking loss of lives. The reports indicated that there were 27 persons on board, including 23 students and four teachers.
A Harni police station official confirmed that 16 individuals, comprising 14 students and two teachers, perished in the boat capsizing incident. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi also confirmed the causality. Swift response teams, including the Collector, Police Commissioner, Municipal Commissioner, and over 60 NDRF and Fire Brigade personnel, reached the spot.
In response to the calamity, the Prime Minister announced Rs 2 Lakhs each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The State Government has pledged Rs 4 Lakhs each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. A collective effort is underway to address the aftermath of this tragic incident.

The Chief Minister (CM) has ordered an inquiry, invoking IPC sections 304, 308, and 114 against the accused. Two suspects have been apprehended, and a magisterial inquiry has been entrusted to Vadodara District Collector. An FIR has been registered, and nine teams are mobilized for the arrest of the accused.
