1718 villages will soon get potable drinking water supply: Jimpa

Water Supply and Sanitation (WSS) Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa on Thursday held a review meeting with the senior officials of the department in his office.  Chairing the meeting he ordered to complete all the ongoing surface water projects on time. Jimpa said that the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to make the state ‘Rangala Punjab’ and for this purpose, all the facilities should be provided to the state villages on priority basis.

At present, 15 surface water projects are under progress in different areas of Punjab and after the completion, 1718 villages will get potable drinking water supply.  Jimpa said that the underground water of these villages is unfit for human consumption and some villages fall in Kandi areas. He said that out of the 15 projects, 3 projects Mandoli Pabra, Bhavra and Nanowal (District Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib) are in progress. The total cost of these projects is Rs 318 crore and 408 villages will be supplied with clean water through these projects. The project is expected to be completed by February 2024.

Similarly, the work of 1 project in Anandpur Sahib is under progress, in which 67 villages will get clean water and the cost of the project is Rs. 38.98 crore. Jimpa also reviewed the progress of 2 projects of Rs 554.25 crore under District Fazilka and 1 under District Ferozepur. After completing, 436 villages to be supplied with clean water. Apart from this, the works of 8 surface water projects under District Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur were also reviewed and Jimpa ordered to complete these projects on time.

In the meeting J.J. Goyal, Chief Engineer (PDQA), R. K. Khosla, Chief Engineer (Central), J.S. Chahal, Chief Engineer (South) and Jasbir Singh Chief Engineer (North) and other officials of the department were present.
