Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the 41 workers who were successfully rescued from Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel after 17 days, expressing relief and solidarity.

All 41 workers  were rescued in a multi-agency rescue operation after almost 17 days yesterday. Union Minister V K Singh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed the workers as National Disaster Response Force men brought them out through a steel chute that lined a 60-metre escape passage.

 

Reacting to the success of the rescue operation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the success of the rescue operation of our labour brothers in Uttarkashi is making everyone emotional. I want to say to the friends who were trapped in the tunnel that your courage and patience are inspiring everyone.

“I wish you all well and good health. It is a matter of great satisfaction that after a long wait, these friends of ours will now meet their loved ones. The patience and courage that all these families have shown in this challenging time cannot be appreciated enough. I also salute the spirit of all the people associated with this rescue operation, the Prime  Minister said in his post on X formerly known as Twitter.

” I am completely relieved and happy as 41 trapped laborers in the Silkyara Tunnel Collapse have been successfully rescued. This was a well-coordinated effort by multiple agencies, marking one of the most significant rescue operations in recent years. Various departments and agencies complemented each other despite facing numerous challenges, ”  Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said in his post on X.

“The Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi  himself kept taking regular information about this operation and the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri @pushkardhami remained present at the spot and kept an eye on the progress of this rescue work. I also fully appreciate the role and sensitivity of Prime Minister Modiji, Chief Minister Dhamiji, Union Ministers Shri @nitin_gadkari  and @Gen_VKSingh  ji,” Defence Minister Rajnath Singh wrote on X. 

President Droupadi Murmu tweets, “I feel relieved and happy to learn that all the workers trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand have been rescued. Their travails over 17 days, as the rescue effort met with obstacles, have been a testament of human endurance. The nation salutes their resilience and remains grateful to them for building critical infrastructure, even at great personal risk, far away from their homes. I congratulate the teams and all experts who have acted with incredible grit and determination to perform one of the most difficult rescue missions in history”.

” After over two weeks of untiring efforts, our engineers, technicians and staff of the rescue team have safely rescued all 41 people trapped inside an under-construction Silkyara-Barkot tunnel at Uttarkashi. Concerned with the safety and security of people trapped inside, Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi  ji was personally monitoring this rescue operation which was one of the trickiest and difficult ones. But our rescuers overcame all stupendous challenges and ensured a ray of light at the end of the tunnel. Uttarakhand CM Shri @pushkardhami   ji left no stone unturned and remained on standby throughout the operation,” Union Minister Anurag Thakur said in his post on X.

Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, in his post on X  expressed heartfelt gratitude to all those who worked tirelessly to rescue those trapped in the tunnel.

 

“Congratulations to the dedicated teams and experts for executing this challenging rescue mission with grit and determination. Wishing all the workers a healthy and happy life ahead,”  Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar wrote on X.
