The News Freedom

New Delhi, January 9

The US has labeled China, North Korea, and Pakistan as “Countries of Particular Concern” for egregious violations of religious freedom. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reaffirmed America’s longstanding commitment to religious liberty, citing the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act.

Twelve countries in total made the list, including Myanmar, China, North Korea, and Pakistan Cuba, Eritrea, Iran, Nicaragua, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. These nations face potential sanctions and diplomatic censure for their repressive tactics against religious minorities.

The move underscores growing US concern about religious persecution worldwide and could further strain Washington’s already tense relations with Beijing and Islamabad.
