Chandigarh, January 13

The Punjab Water Resources Department has decided to close the water outflow from the Ranjit Sagar Dam for a period of 31 days to facilitate crucial maintenance and reservoir filling at the Shahpurkandi Dam. The official spokesperson revealed that, considering the prevailing weather conditions and the status of crops, the water outflow from the Ranjit Sagar Dam is scheduled to be closed from January 15 to February 14, inclusive of both days. This temporary closure is imperative to carry out urgent tasks such as plugging under sluices and impounding the Shahpurkandi Dam. The notification for this action has been issued under Rule-63 of the regulations established under the Northern India Canal and Drainage Act, 1873 (Act No. VIII of 1873).
