Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday administered the oath of office to the newly appointed Chairman of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Jatinder Singh Aulakh and State Chief Information Commissioner Inderpal Singh. The brief but impressive ceremony, overseen by Chief Secretary Anurag Verma, marked a significant moment for Punjab’s administrative and legal landscapes.
Jatinder Singh Aulakh, a seasoned police officer with 33 years of experience under his belt, steps into the crucial role of PPSC Chairman. Hailing from Bargari village in Faridkot, Aulakh’s career saw him rise through the ranks of the Punjab Police, from his early days as a DSP to his final position as the state’s Intelligence Chief in the rank of ADGP. Aulakh’s educational background reflects his dedication to both academic and legal pursuits, having completed his schooling at PPS Nabha, earning a BA (Honours) from DAV College, Chandigarh, and later pursuing an LL.B. and an MA in History from Panjab University.
Aulakh’s distinguished service record speaks volumes about his leadership abilities and commitment to public safety. He has served as SSP in various districts across Punjab, including SAS Nagar, Sangrur, Ropar, Jagraon, SBS Nagar, and Khanna. Additionally, his tenure as Commissioner of Police in both Amritsar and Ludhiana, along with roles as IG of Patiala and Ferozepur Range, IG Headquarters, and Intelligence Chief, demonstrates his versatility and expertise in different aspects of police work. Upon retirement, Aulakh was adorned with the prestigious National Award (Special), Police Medal for Distinguished Services, Police Medal for Meritorious Services, Chief Minister’s Medal, and three DGP Commendation Discs, a testament to his exceptional contributions.
Joining Aulakh in taking oath was eminent Advocate Inderpal Singh, who will take on the mantle of Chief Information Commissioner. Born in 1963, Singh’s reputation in the legal world precedes him. He has served on the panel of the Union of India, as standing counsel for the British High Commission, and as an elected member and later Vice Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana High Court. Before his appointment as Chief Information Commissioner in August 2022, he held the position of Senior Additional Advocate General Punjab.
