Congress leader and main face of the party in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi, to contest from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency and AICC General Secretary organization KC Venugopal from Alappuzha, Congress announced on Friday. While addressing a press conference in New Delhi, AICC General Secretary organization KC Venugopal said that former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has been nominated to contest from Rajnandgaon. Giving details, he said the Congress Central Election Committee (CEC) has unveiled its first list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, comprising 39 nominees. Among them, 15 candidates represent the General category, while 24 individuals hail from SC, ST, OBC, and minority groups. In terms of age demographics, 12 candidates are below 50 years old, indicating a youthful representation within the party’s line up. Additionally, 8 contenders fall within the age bracket of 50–60, while 12 more are in the age range of 61-70, reflecting a balanced distribution across different age groups, he added.
He said that 7 candidates have been selected from the age group of 71-76, highlighting the party’s inclusivity and recognition of experienced leadership. This comprehensive selection underscores Congress’s strategic approach in fielding candidates from diverse backgrounds to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections.
In the first list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress CEC has selected 39 names.
