Jalandhar, October 9
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Friday inspected Burlton Park Stadium in Jalandhar to review preparations for the upcoming Asian Cup Hockey tournament, directing officials to ensure international-standard facilities, tight security and smooth transport for players and spectators.
The inspection followed a high-level review meeting in Chandigarh earlier in the day. Mann assessed the progress of renovation work, infrastructure development and arrangements for participating teams and visitors.
He said spectators’ safety, comfort and convenience must remain the top priority and called for a comprehensive crowd-management plan, effective security measures and smooth entry and exit arrangements.
“No stone will be left unturned to make this prestigious international sporting event a grand success,” Mann said, adding that Punjab should set new benchmarks in hosting international sporting events.
During the visit, the chief minister reviewed the newly installed lighting system, scoreboard and ongoing renovation work. He directed officials to complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeframe and ensure that all facilities were tested before the tournament begins.
Mann also called for dedicated buses and adequate transport facilities for players from international teams, in line with international protocols. He stressed the need for coordination among departments to ensure smooth logistical arrangements.
The chief minister directed officials to improve access routes, regulate crowds efficiently and ensure that spectators could enter the stadium without unnecessary delays.
He said the tournament would provide an opportunity to showcase Punjab’s sporting heritage and inspire young people to take up sports.
Punjab has a long tradition of producing hockey players who have represented India at national and international levels, Mann said, adding that the tournament would help strengthen the state’s standing in international sports.
Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat, Hockey Punjab president Nitin Kohli, Jalandhar Mayor Vineet Dheer and others were present during the inspection.
