Guwahati, January 23

The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra  led  by Rahul Gandhi encountered turmoil in Assam as an FIR was registered against him and fellow Congress leaders. The action was initiated on the directives of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who accused Rahul of instigating party workers to breach barricades.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has instructed the state police to file a case against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly “provoking the crowd” during the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, as Congress workers faced obstruction from entering Guwahati.

“These tactics are not part of Assamese culture. We are a peaceful state. Such ‘naxalite tactics’ are completely alien to our culture. I have instructed @DGPAssamPolice to register a case against your leader @RahulGandhi for provoking the crowd & use the footage you have posted on your handles as evidence,” tweeted the Assam CM on X (formerly Twitter).

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi defended the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, stating that it would benefit from the publicity generated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s actions. Addressing a press conference, Gandhi emphasized that the Nyay Yatra had become a focal point in Assam.Speaking near the Guwahati border, Rahul Gandhi asserted that his party workers would not violate rules or disrupt law and order, but added, “this doesn’t mean that we are weak.”

Nearly 5,000 Congress workers, led by Rahul Gandhi, attempting to enter Guwahati on Tuesday were halted, leading to clashes with the police and the breaking of barriers. Police responded with a lathi-charge to disperse the crowd.
