At least 84 people were killed in the blasts and 141 others wounded in explosions near the tomb of former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) General Qassem Soleimani during a ceremony marking four years since his assassination, as per media reports.
The blasts, which occurred approximately 700 and 1000 meters from Soleimani’s resting place, shook the city and caused casualties, though the exact number remains unclear.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause or identify any perpetrators, and no group has claimed responsibility. A senior official labeled the incident a “terrorist attack” without specifying any potential suspects. This lack of clarity has fueled speculation and anxiety within Iran, particularly in light of the attack’s proximity to Soleimani’s highly symbolic burial site, according to media reports.
Ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene, providing aid to those affected by the incident. The cause of the explosions is still under investigation, with officials refraining from assigning blame or drawing conclusions until further information emerges.
