Ending days of speculation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday surprised many by selecting first-term MLA Bhajan Lal Sharma as the new Chief Minister of Rajasthan. The announcement was made by senior BJP leader and Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, after meeting with party MLAs. In a strategic move, Rajnath Singh announced the appointment of two deputy chief ministers, Diya Kumar and Prem Chand Bairwa, signifying a concerted effort towards diverse representation within the party’s leadership. Furthermore, Vasudev Devnani has been designated as the Speaker of the State Assembly.
During the meeting, the name of the CM-designate was proposed by former Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, who had been speculated to be a frontrunner for the top position herself. Sharma, a relatively unknown figure outside political circles, won the Sanganer constituency with a comfortable margin of 48,081 votes. Hailing from Bharatpur district, he is known for his close association with the RSS and his strong grassroots connections.
After the announcement, Rajnath Singh wrote in a social media post that,” Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Shri @BhajanlalBjp ji on being unanimously elected as the leader of BJP Legislative Party in Rajasthan. I have full faith that Rajasthan will move on a new path of development under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and the leadership of Bhajanlalji. There will also be two Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government of Rajasthan. Mrs. @KumariDiya and Mr. Premchandra Bairwa have been selected in this role. My many congratulations and best wishes to both of them.”
… pic.twitter.com/Ese32NEL4j
