The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved six projects of the Ministry of Railways, totaling an estimated cost of Rs. 12,343 crore (approx.), fully funded by the Central Government. These multi-tracking proposals aim to streamline operations and alleviate congestion, facilitating essential infrastructural development on some of the busiest sections within the Indian Railways network. Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision for a new India, these projects are poised to bolster regional self-reliance through comprehensive development, thereby enhancing employment and self-employment opportunities.
Spanning across 18 districts in six states—Rajasthan, Assam, Telangana, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Nagaland—the six projects will extend the existing Indian Railways network by 1020 kilometers, generating an estimated employment of about three crore man-days in these states. These initiatives are a manifestation of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, achieved through integrated planning, and are geared towards ensuring seamless movement of people, goods, and services.
