NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 22
Union Minister, Anurag Thakur, addressed the ongoing farmers’ protest, stating that three Union ministers engaged in constructive dialogue with farmers in Chandigarh, conducting four rounds of talks. Thakur expressed satisfaction with the discussions and affirmed the government’s willingness to continue negotiations whenever necessary, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and preventing economic and human losses.
During his interaction with the media, Thakur highlighted the government’s efforts to support farmers, including the recent increase in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of sugarcane from Rs 315 to Rs 340 per quintal. He further emphasized the government’s commitment to doubling farmers’ income, citing the implementation of recommendations from the MS Swaminathan report. Thakur also contrasted the government’s actions with past administrations, noting a significant increase in credit disbursement to farmers under the current government compared to previous years.
Thakur concluded by reaffirming the Modi government’s dedication to farmers’ interests and rejected comparisons with previous administrations, suggesting that the government’s proactive measures distinguish it from past regimes that, in his view, failed to adequately address farmers’ concerns despite decades in power.
