NEW DELHI, MARCH 23
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann asserted on Saturday the imperative of national unity, warning of potential ruin if divisive forces persist. He rallied support for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, predicting his emergence as a catalyst for substantial change. Mann criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of harboring dictatorial ambitions detrimental to the nation’s democratic fabric. He emphasized that incarcerating Opposition figures does not align with the principles of freedom. After paying tribute to martyrs Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, addressing a gathering at Shaheedi Park, Mann dismissed the notion that a Chief Minister facing politically motivated incarceration should resign, asserting that Kejriwal’s detention by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) did not equate to guilt. Mann rallied supporters, declaring that each candidate and volunteer should embody the spirit of Kejriwal. Mann highlighted international newspapers’ front-page coverage expressing concerns over the state of democracy in India. He criticized the government’s priorities, noting its focus on addressing the conflict between Ukraine and Russia while concurrently incarcerating opposition figures.
