NEW DELHI, MARCH 21

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi voiced concerns over bank account freezes, stating, “All our bank accounts have been frozen and we cannot campaign, support our workers, and our candidates.” This action occurred two months before the election campaign, with notices dating back to the 90s and another set from 6-7 years ago, totaling an amount of Rs 14 Lakhs, thus impacting their entire financial identity, Gandhi emphasized.

Speaking at a press conference, Gandhi criticized the Election Commission’s silence on the matter, expressing dismay over the damage inflicted on their ability to contest elections. “Already, our ability to fight elections has been damaged, we have already lost a month,” he added.

CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi expressed concern over the freezing of funds collected from the public and the forced withdrawal of money from party accounts, stating that despite these challenges, the party is striving to uphold the effectiveness of its election campaign. In remarks addressing the situation, Gandhi highlighted the contentious issue of Electoral Bonds, which have been deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. She underscored the significant advantage the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has gained from these bonds while lamenting the determined assault on the finances of the principal opposition party, the INC. Gandhi characterized these actions as unprecedented and undemocratic, emphasizing the need for fair and equitable electoral processes.
