NEW DELHI, MARCH 21
Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at his residence in New Delhi around 9.14 pm on Thursday in an excise policy-linked money-laundering case. The ED acted swiftly after the Delhi High Court denied him protection from arrest in the case. Outside his residence, a significant gathering of AAP party workers voiced their support for Kejriwal while expressing opposition towards the BJP through slogans.
A substantial police force has been deployed outside both Kejriwal’s residence and the ED office. The case concerns suspected instances of corruption and money laundering related to the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government’s excise policy for the 2021-22 period, which was subsequently revoked. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh were already arrested in connection with the investigation and lodged in Jail.
According to the ED, Kejriwal’s involvement has been repeatedly mentioned in the charge sheets filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). According to the agency, the accused individuals maintained communication with Kejriwal to influence the excise policy, allegedly resulting in undue benefits for them. In exchange for these benefits, kickbacks were purportedly funneled to the AAP.
