NEW DELHI, MARCH 11

In a ruling against the State Bank of India (SBI), the Supreme Court on Monday declined the bank’s request for an extension until June 30 to disclose information regarding the purchase and redemption of electoral bonds to the Election Commission of India (ECI). The five-judge Constitution Bench led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, directed the SBI to provide the details by the close of business hours on March 12. The bench, which reviewed the electoral bonds scheme, asserted that the information requested by the court was readily available to the bank, thus rejecting the need for further extension. The Supreme Court dismissed the SBI’s application and instructed the ECI to compile and publish the details on its official website no later than March 15, 2024.
