The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee on Friday tabled a report recommending the expulsion of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra. The report, presented by committee chairman and BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar, accuses Moitra of “unethical conduct” involving bribery and misuse of parliamentary credentials.
The charges against Moitra stem from allegations that she raised questions in Parliament on behalf of businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for “illegal gratifications.” The Ethics Committee examined complaints filed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and lawyer Jai Anant Dehadrai, a former partner of Moitra, who accused her of sharing her Lok Sabha login credentials with unauthorized persons.
The committee, after a thorough investigation, concluded that the charges against Moitra hold merit. Their report recommends her expulsion from the Lok Sabha, citing her actions as a serious breach of privilege and a threat to national security.
While talking to the media, TMC MP Moitra said, “Maa Durga aa gayi hai, ab dekhenge…Jab naash manuj par chhata hai, pehle vivek mar jaata hai. They have started ‘vastraharan’ and now you will watch ‘Mahabharat ka rann’.”
Earlier Moitra has vehemently denied all allegations, terming the committee’s decision as a “predetermined outcome” by a “kangaroo court.” She has further called the move a “death of parliamentary democracy” and a politically motivated attack on her opposition to the ruling government.
