Punjab is taking a giant leap towards clean energy leadership with its Green Hydrogen ambitious policy, drafted by the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), which aims to transform agricultural residues, currently a major challenge for the state, into valuable green energy assets, said New and Renewable Energy Sources Minister Aman Arora on Friday.
Highlighting the transformative potential of the policy, he said that the policy will focus on utilising Punjab’s abundant agricultural residues, particularly 20 million tons of paddy straw generated annually, to produce green hydrogen.” Punjab aims to become a major green hydrogen/ammonia producer, aiming to achieve a production capacity of 100 Kilo tonnes per annum by 2030,” he added. He said that the policy encourages the development and adoption of innovative technologies for producing hydrogen, including biomass gasification, electrolysis of wastewater, and hydrogen fuel blending.
Giving details, he emphasised the commitment of the Chief Minister to green energy initiatives, adding that this initiative paves the way for exploring advanced technologies to produce green hydrogen from biomass, contributing to a sustainable future for Punjab.
