CHANDIGARH, FEBRUARY 23

During the ongoing farmers’ protest, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday announced the waiver of interest and penalties on certain crop loans and refrained from imposing tax hikes. The Chief Minister unveiled a budget of Rs 1.89 lakh crore for the financial year 2024-25, marking an increase of over 11 percent from the previous fiscal period.

Under the announced measures, interest and penalty on crop loans obtained from Primary Agriculture Credit Societies (PACS) will be waived for farmers registered with the Meri Fasal Mera Byora (MFMB) system, provided the loans were acquired before September 30, 2023, and the principal amount is repaid by May 31, 2024.

The CM underscored the government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers, highlighting the provision of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 14 crops. He detailed the budget proposal, indicating a substantial increase of 11.37 percent  to Rs 1,89,876.61 crore compared to the revised estimates of the previous fiscal year.

Additionally, eligibility criteria for future crop loans from PACS were outlined, with registration on the MFMB portal being a prerequisite for farmers seeking financial assistance during the Kharif season.
