In response to media inquiries, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly denied reports of a “secret memo” issued in April 2023. MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi categorically said that such reports are “fake and completely fabricated.” Bagchi further said that the news outlet in question has a history of propagating “fake narratives peddled by Pakistani intelligence.” He cautioned against amplifying such misinformation, adding that “those who do so only do so at the cost of their own credibility.”
“We strongly assert that such reports are fake and completely fabricated. There is no such memo. This is part of a sustained disinformation campaign against India. The outlet in question is known for propagating fake narratives peddled by Pakistani intelligence. The posts of the authors confirm this linkage,” said Bagchi.
The news outlet The Intercept claimed that the memo, issued in April 2023, included the name of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in Canada’s Surrey in June 2023.
