Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to fortifying India’s borders, unveiling plans to erect a fence along the entire 1643-kilometer-long Indo-Myanmar border. In a statement shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Minister Shah outlined measures to enhance surveillance, including the construction of a patrol track along the border.

Revealing progress in the initiative, Home Minister Shah noted that a 10 km stretch in Moreh, Manipur, has already been fenced. Additionally, he disclosed the commencement of two pilot projects employing a Hybrid Surveillance System (HSS) to fence stretches of 1 km each in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur. Furthermore, approvals for fence works covering approximately 20 km in Manipur have been granted, with work set to commence imminently, he added.
