Allahabad, December 14

In a landmark development in the ongoing Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday  approved a request by the Hindu side seeking the appointment of an advocate commissioner to survey the Shahi Idgah Masjid.

Vishnu Shankar Jain, counsel for the Hindu litigants, hailed the decision as a “significant victory” and said that the court has rejected the arguments of the Shahi Idgah Masjid and allowed our application for an advocate commissioner to conduct a survey.

“My contention was that there are numerous Hindu temple symbols and markings within the Shahi Idgah Masjid. To ascertain the actual position and uncover any potential evidence, an advocate commissioner’s investigation is crucial,” Jain further said.

The specific modalities of the survey, including the scope and duration, will be finalised on December 18th, the court has informed. This decision comes after months of legal wrangling over the disputed land in Mathura, where the Shahi Idgah Masjid stands adjacent to the site where many Hindus believe Lord Krishna was born.

The Hindu side has long contended that the Shahi Idgah Masjid was built on the ruins of an ancient Hindu temple, while the Muslim community maintains its right to worship at the existing mosque. The court’s latest ruling marks a critical step in resolving this complex and sensitive land dispute, paving the way for potential future investigations and legal proceedings.

This decision comes after months of legal wrangling over the disputed land in Mathura. The Hindu side claimed that the Idgah Masjid was constructed by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb by demolishing a temple on 13.37 acres of Lord Krishna’s birthplace.
