NEW DELHI, MARCH 18

In a bid to ensure fair and impartial upcoming elections, India’s Election Commission (ECI) took significant steps on Monday, ordering the replacement of home secretaries in six states and the Director General of Police in West Bengal. Led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the ECI mandated the transfer of officials in Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand. Additionally, the commission removed the secretaries of the general administrative departments in Himachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

This decision comes ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections. While the ECI has refrained from commenting on the specific reasons for the removals, a source familiar with the matter indicated that they were related to potential conflicts of interest. “This action underscores the ECI’s unwavering dedication to conducting free and fair elections,” the source stated on the condition of anonymity.
