Major tourism associations in the Maldives issued strong condemnations in response to recent derogatory comments made by their ministers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep and India. The Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) highlighted India’s pivotal role as a close neighbor and ally, emphasizing India’s historical support during crises and its significant contributions to the Maldives’ tourism sector. Similarly, the National Hotels and Guesthouses Association of Maldives (NHGAM) expressed firm disapproval of discriminatory statements and underscored the enduring friendship between Maldives and India, stressing India’s role as a vital source market for the nation’s tourism industry. Both associations extended congratulations to India for its commitment to regional progress and expressed a desire to further strengthen the enduring bond between the two nations.
