Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today expressed deep concern over the silence of Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami regarding Lok Sabha MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s equating of Akali Dal’s election symbol with the scales of the first Sikh Guru, Sri Guru Nanak Dev.
Chief Minister Mann found it perplexing that, despite Harsimrat Badal’s inflammatory and unfounded statements that offended the sentiments of the Sikh community, SGPC remained conspicuously silent on the matter. He asserted that this silence reflected Dhami’s role as a loyal supporter of Akali Dal, particularly the Badal family. Mann expressed surprise at the SGPC chief’s apparent disregard for the transgressions of his masters, which he believes hurt the sentiments of the entire Sikh community.
Highlighting the timing of Harsimrat Badal’s statement on the day of Maghi, Chief Minister Mann emphasized the stoic silence of Dhami on the issue, even after several days. Challenging Dhami to face the media , Chief Minister Mann welcomed SGPC to continue its favorite pastime of alleging interference in Sikh religious matters.
