Putting an end to days of speculation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced Mohan Yadav, a three-time MLA, as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Monday. The decision, made following a meeting of the BJP legislature party at the party headquarters in Bhopal, solidifies Yadav’s ascent to the state’s top political position. Former Education Minister Yadav is considered a close confidant of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, and his appointment is seen as a move to consolidate the party’s hold in the state ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Yadav’s political career traces back to his initial election as an MLA from the Ujjain Dakshin constituency in 2013, followed by a successful re-election in 2018. His experience and rapport within the party structure have undoubtedly contributed to the BJP’s confidence in nominating him as the Chief Minister.
The state will also have two Deputy Chief Ministers namely Jagdisgh Devda and Rajesh Shukla. In addition to it, Narendra Tomar will be Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker.

BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan tendered his resignation to Governor Mangubhai C. Patel at Raj Bhavan in Bhopal after Yadav was elected as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh.
