Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday criticized the opposition for their absence during the Governor’s address, attributing it to their inability to accept the state government’s progressive initiatives for development and the well-being of its citizens.
During his concluding remarks on the Governor’s address in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Mann accused opposition leaders of prioritizing political power over the state’s interests. He asserted that while the government focused on farmers’ welfare, the opposition merely engaged in superficial gestures. Mann claimed that the people of Punjab had rejected these leaders, promising repercussions in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Mann highlighted the government’s efforts over the past two years, emphasizing unprecedented progress and development. He accused the opposition of neglecting initiatives such as Aam Aadmi Clinics and Teerth Yatra Yojna, focusing solely on power dynamics. Mann criticized their tendency to evade critical issues and accused them of hindering the state’s progress.
The Chief Minister presented a symbolic lock to the Speaker, urging him to prevent the opposition from leaving the Vidhan Sabha during sessions. He condemned their habitual walkouts and emphasized the importance of democratic participation. Mann criticized the Congress for what he perceived as their disregard for democracy and accused them of seeking alliances out of desperation.
Mann also criticized the Badal family for alleged corruption and accused opposition leaders of lacking basic courtesy. He compared Navjot Singh Sidhu to a “driverless goods train” and likened the Congress to an outdated vehicle. Mann expressed confidence in the AAP’s prospects in the upcoming elections and reiterated the government’s commitment to serving the people of Punjab.
