ISRO Chairman S Somanath outlines a visionary roadmap at the International Space Conference, emphasizing the Prime Minister Narendra Modi call for sustained human presence in space. With a target of a human moon landing by 2040 and the establishment of a space station by 2035, ISRO charts an ambitious course for India’s space exploration journey, he highlighted.
Somanath addressed the Space Conference 2024 in Gandhinagar on Thursday, reflecting on the visionary directives provided by the Prime Minister in the aftermath of the space program’s recent successes over the past six months. The Prime Minister, a longstanding advocate for space initiatives since his tenure as the Chief Minister of the state, emphasized the need for a sustained human presence in space.
Somanath expounded on the Prime Minister’s vision, asserting that while the Gaganyaan program is underway, it should extend into a prolonged endeavor culminating in a human moon landing by 2040, in alignment with the ambitious goals set forth. He stressed the proximity of this timeline, urging concerted efforts. Additionally, the Chairman highlighted the imperative to establish a space station accessible to Indians for research purposes by the year 2035, underscoring the significance of these strategic objectives.
