Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, today unveiled the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, a rooftop solar scheme aimed at providing free electricity. “In order to promote sustainable development and enhance the well-being of our citizens, we are introducing the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. With an investment exceeding Rs. 75,000 crores, this initiative seeks to illuminate 1 crore households by offering up to 300 units of free electricity per month,” the Prime Minister announced in a statement posted on X. “Through substantial subsidies disbursed directly to individuals’ bank accounts and highly concessional bank loans, the Central Government is committed to ensuring that the scheme imposes no financial burden on the people. A National Online Portal will integrate all stakeholders to enhance accessibility,” he emphasized. Providing further details, he explained that Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats will receive incentives to promote rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions, thereby facilitating grassroots adoption of the program.
