New Delhi, November 26

Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the enduring power of the Indian Constitution, asserting that the spirit of “Nation First” will keep it alive for centuries. Speaking at the Supreme Court on Constitution Day, he marked the start of year-long celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the Constitution’s adoption.

Calling the Constitution a “living stream,” Modi praised its adaptability to India’s evolving needs and aspirations. He highlighted its resilience during challenges like the Emergency of 1975 and lauded its role in guiding the nation through critical phases.

The Prime Minister also linked the event to the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, honoring victims and reiterating India’s resolve to counter terrorism. “India will give a befitting reply to every organization threatening our security,” he declared.

Governance and Progress: Milestones Achieved

Modi underlined the transformative initiatives under his leadership, all inspired by the Constitution’s guiding principles:

  • Social Justice: The Women’s Reservation Bill, expanded rights for third-gender individuals, and facilities for differently-abled citizens.
  • Healthcare: Nearly 100% immunization under Mission Indradhanush, free healthcare up to ₹5 lakh for poor families, and discounted medicines at Jan Aushadi Kendras.
  • Infrastructure: ₹18 lakh crore worth of projects monitored under PRAGATI, enhanced digital connectivity through 4G and 5G, and drone-based land mapping under PM Swamitva Yojana.

Economic and Social Inclusion

Modi lauded efforts like the Aspirational Districts and Blocks programs that uplift backward regions, providing tap water to over 12 crore households and electrifying 2.5 crore homes. He also spotlighted achievements in housing, banking access, and mobile connectivity in remote areas.

Constitution’s Cultural and Human Values

Referencing the Constitution’s original illustrations of Indian cultural figures like Lord Ram and Guru Gobind Singh, Modi emphasized the relevance of human values in policy-making. “Human values are the foundation of today’s policies,” he remarked.

As the nation celebrates 75 years of the Constitution, Modi urged citizens to embrace the spirit of “Nation First.” Quoting Dr. Rajendra Prasad, he concluded: “What India needs is a group of honest people who put the nation’s interests above their own.”

Key Highlights:

  • Constitution Day marks 75 years of adoption with year-long celebrations.
  • Tribute to 26/11 victims and India’s anti-terror resolve.
  • Social and economic justice initiatives transform lives.
  • Technological and infrastructure progress drive inclusive growth.
  • Cultural values remain at the Constitution’s heart.
