Prime Minister Narendra Modi today described the enactment of new criminal laws as a pivotal moment in transforming the criminal justice system. He stressed the ethos of ‘Citizen First, Dignity First, and Justice First’ that underpinned these laws, advocating a shift from traditional enforcement to data-driven approaches within the police force.
Modi urged innovative ways to communicate the emotional essence of these laws to society, particularly emphasizing the rights and security of women and girls.
Addressing the gathering at the 58th All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspector Generals of Police held in Jaipur, the Prime Minister highlighted the need to bolster the positive image of law enforcement among citizens. He suggested leveraging social media at the grassroots level to disseminate affirmative messages, advance information on disasters, and organize sporting events to foster closer ties between citizens and the police. Stressing India’s achievements like the successful Aditya-L1 solar mission and the swift naval rescue operation, he emphasized India’s growing global stature.
Concluding the conference, Prime Minister Modi conferred the Police Medal for Distinguished Services. The event, attended by key officials including the Union Home Minister, National Security Advisor, Ministers of State for Home, and top police officials, held discussions on critical national security aspects, including counterterrorism, cyber threats, and strategies against radicalization. The conference, adopting a hybrid format, saw the participation of over 500 police officers from diverse locations, deliberating on key challenges and strategies for the future.
