Prime Minister Narendra Modi unleashed a scathing attack on Opposition parties today, accusing them of disrupting Parliament in “frustration” after their recent electoral losses. Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary party meeting, Modi asserted that the Opposition’s conduct will backfire spectacularly. The Opposition’s conduct will ensure its numbers will go down in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the BJP will gain in numbers.
“How can a party believing in democratic values overtly or covertly justify it?” Modi questioned, referring to the recent breach of Parliament security by two protesters. He further criticized those condoning or downplaying the incident, stating that it undermined the very foundation of democratic functioning
“Their (Opposition) goal is to throw out our government, but our goal is to create a bright future for the country,” Modi declared, drawing sharp contrasts between the parties’ agendas. He accused the Opposition of being “rattled” by their defeats in recent assembly elections, leading them to resort to “unruly protests” and disrupt parliamentary proceedings.
The Prime Minister pointed towards the 92 MPs currently suspended from Parliament, a record high, as a stark symbol of the Opposition’s “disruptive tactics.” He lamented the stalled legislative agenda, highlighting the impact of the ongoing commotion on crucial debates and initiatives.
“Some are united solely in their desire to unseat the BJP, while we are patriots working for a brighter India,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said, quoting the Prime Minister. “They are using their strength for political games, while we utilize ours for national upliftment,” he added.
