NEW DELHI, MARCH 14
In a strategic move aimed at reinforcing its position ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed Preneet Kaur, the wife of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, into its ranks. Kaur, currently representing Patiala in Parliament, is anticipated to contest from the same constituency under the BJP banner in the upcoming elections.
Following his resignation as Chief Minister in 2021, Capt Amarinder formed the Punjab Lok Congress and later merged it with the BJP the subsequent year. Preneet Kaur was suspended from the Congress in February last year, on grounds of alleged “anti-party activities” favoring the BJP, which paved the way for her departure to the BJP.
In a ceremony held today, attended by National General Secretaries Vinod Tawde and Tarun Chugh, along with the party’s Punjab chief Sunil Jakhar, a former Congress member, Preneet Kaur lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s contributions to the nation’s development.
“I am delighted to join the BJP today. Over the past 25 years, I have served in both the Lok Sabha and the Assembly. It is imperative for everyone to unite and propel the agenda of PM Modi and his policies,” she said.
“Preneet Kaur ji is a seasoned parliamentarian who has demonstrated her potential through her work on various committees. Such additions to the BJP, particularly in Punjab where public sentiment is shifting against the state government, significantly bolster our strength,” said Tawde.
“The BJP is gaining traction among the common Punjabi populace. The development of Punjab, in line with PM Modi’s vision, will receive a substantial impetus with Preneet Kaur ji,” he remarked.
