CHANDIGARH, FEBRUARY 20
Punjab Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, celebrated the Supreme Court’s verdict on the Chandigarh mayoral election as a “triumph of democracy and truth,”. Mann hailed the decision as a restoration of public faith in democratic institutions, calling it a victory for not just Chandigarh but the entire nation. He termed the court’s action as “historic,” praising its intervention in reversing alleged rigging by the presiding officer and reinstating eight previously invalidated votes. This reinstatement, Mann stated, paved the way for the Aam Aadmi Party’s Kuldeep Kumar to become the rightful mayor.
Expressing national gratitude towards the court, Mann lauded the decision’s potential to strengthen India’s democratic fabric. However, he reiterated his earlier stance, branding January 30th as the “darkest day” in Indian politics.
