Chandigarh, December 30

Responding to public concerns, the Punjab government constituted a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday to investigate alleged human trafficking linked to the detainment of 303 Indian passengers in Nicaragua. The SIT, headed by Superintendent of Police Ferozepur Randhir Kumar, will probe the circumstances surrounding the detention and reports of potential human trafficking involving passengers primarily from Punjab and Gujarat.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav has directed the Director Bureau of Investigation (BOI) LK Yadav to constitute the SIT, emphasizing the need for an expeditious and thorough investigation. The SIT team also includes Assistant Commissioner of Police Jasroop Kaur Baath, Deputy Superintendents of Police Balkar Singh Sandhu and Dalbir Singh Sidhu. The SIT will have the authority to co-opt any necessary personnel for assistance.

Reports in the media brought the incident to light, though details regarding the detention and specific allegations remain unclear.
