Punjab’s Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, underscored the imperative to bolster nursing education standards, emphasizing its pivotal role within the medical profession. Addressing a culminating session of a two-day Nursing Workshop and Principals’ Meet in Zirakpur, Dr. Singh highlighted the importance of nurses in patient care, likening their responsibilities to those of doctors. He advocated for imbuing clinical duties with a missionary zeal, suggesting its incorporation into the course’s examination and evaluation framework.
Asserting nursing education as the cornerstone of the medical field, Dr. Singh praised the tireless efforts of nurses in numerous life-saving situations. He noted Punjab’s extensive network of over 250 nursing colleges, annually training thousands of students, and stressed the need for enhanced theoretical and practical training to overcome any existing challenges.
The workshop, organized by the Punjab Nurses Registration Council (PNRC) under the Department of Medical Education and Research, convened nursing leaders under the theme “Empowering Nursing Leaders – Current Issues and Challenges.” The workshop saw the participation of 250 principals from nursing schools and colleges, alongside civil surgeons, deputy medical commissioners (DMCs), and nursing superintendents (Matrons) representing 23 districts of Punjab.
