Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann directed state officials on Wednesday to draft legislation aimed at cracking down on illegal colonizers to curb the proliferation of unauthorized colonies in the state. Chairing a meeting following the recent decision to eliminate the requirement of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for land and property registration, the Chief Minister underscored that this move was intended to streamline processes for the public’s benefit. However, he emphasized the necessity of a stringent legal framework to tackle illegal colonizers.
Mann urged officials to prepare the draft legislation before the upcoming session of the state assembly for timely approval. He condemned illegal colonizers for deceiving people with promises of idyllic settings and selling them plots in unapproved colonies, leading residents to struggle for basic amenities. The Chief Minister denounced such practices, emphasizing the financial exploitation of residents by illegal colonizers, who evade legal scrutiny.
Asserting a zero-tolerance stance, Mann pledged rigorous enforcement against colonizers selling plots before obtaining proper approvals. He affirmed the government’s commitment to preventing the proliferation of illegal colonies, vowing severe repercussions for offenders. Mann emphasized the need for stringent laws as a deterrent to curb the development of illegal colonies in the state.
