Chandigarh, January 23
Determined to ensure peaceful Republic Day celebrations in Punjab, the state police has implemented a comprehensive security plan under the direction of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. Over 20,000 personnel, including senior officers from police headquarters, have been deployed across the state.
State-level festivities will unfold in Patiala, where Governor Banwarilal Purohit will unfurl the National Flag and preside over the parade. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mann will lead the celebrations in Ludhiana.
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav personally oversees the security arrangements, with Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla designated as the nodal officer. Foolproof measures are in place, with senior officers of various ranks assigned to monitor specific districts and venues.
All Gazetted Officers and Station House Officers (SHOs) are instructed to remain on duty until the event concludes. Additional forces have been deployed in sensitive areas, while extensive vehicle and person checks are being conducted across Punjab. Plans are also in place to seal key state borders.
Citizens are urged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately using the 112 helpline. Meanwhile, CPs/SSPs are conducting comprehensive cordon and search operations around essential locations like railway stations, bus stands, markets, government buildings, and religious sites.
