Punjab’s Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Gurmeet Singh Khudian, has instructed department officials to transfer Rs 1.05 crore into the bank accounts of sugarcane farmers from Sangrur by Monday. Additionally, Khudian directed the Sangrur Deputy Commissioner to facilitate the release of pending payments (approximately Rs 6.95 crores) from Bhagwanpura Sugar Mill to farmers by the end of the month. These directives were issued during a meeting with Sangrur district administration, Bhagwanpura Sugar Mill management, Dhuri, and representatives of Ganna Kashatkar Sangharsh Committee, Dhuri at the minister’s office on Thursday. Addressing concerns of sugarcane farmers, Khudian urged Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal to ensure fair practices in the purchase and lifting of sugarcane crops, preventing hardships for the farmers.
