Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticised Mamata Banerjee’s government for allegedly protecting the accused Shahjahan in the Sandeshkhali case. Describing the actions of the TMC government as “a matter of shame,” the Prime Minister underscored the critical significance of women’s safety and empowerment, underscoring the BJP’s unwavering commitment to advancing these crucial objectives. Addressing a women’s rally in Barasat, the Prime Minister said that the TMC government had exerted its full power to protect the accused in the Sandeshkhali case, but mothers and sisters, not only in Bengal but throughout India, will never forget and forgive the TMC for its actions.
Following the public gathering, the Prime Minister also met with a group of women from Sandeshkhali. During the conversations, the women courageously shared their stories of enduring atrocities.
Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple connectivity projects worth Rs 15,400 crores in Kolkata. The development projects catering to the urban mobility sector include Metro Rail and Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). The Prime Minister took an overview of all metro projects and took a metro ride on the Esplanade – Howrah Maidan metro route, India’s first underwater metro in Kolkata. He also interacted with shramiks and school children on his metro journey. In a series of posts on X formerly known as Twitter, the Prime Minister said that the metro journey was made memorable thanks to the company of these youngsters and those who worked on this project.
PM Modi remarked that they also traversed through the tunnel under the Hooghly river. “Today marks a significant milestone for the people of Kolkata as the city’s metro network undergoes substantial enhancement,” he noted. “This development will greatly improve connectivity and alleviate traffic congestion. It’s a moment of pride that the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade Metro section boasts the first underwater metro transportation tunnel beneath a major river in our country,” he said.
“Memorable moments from the Kolkata Metro. I bow to the Jan Shakti and will keep serving them with renewed vigour,” the Prime Minister added.
