Chandigarh, November 13

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Monday sacked his Indian-origin Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, following the article recently published in the news outlet The Times, according to media reports. The Guardian reports that the direct trigger for the sacking was an unauthorised article for last Thursday’s Times, in which Braverman claimed there was “a perception that senior police officers play favourites when it comes to protesters” and were tougher on rightwing extremists than pro-Palestinian “mobs”.

Suella Braverman was replaced by Foreign Secretary  James Cleverly. Moreover, Former British PM David Cameron was asked to join as the new Foreign Secretary.

The article also likened demonstrations calling for a ceasefire in Gaza to marches in Northern Ireland, which are mainly done by unionists. The article was submitted to Downing Street, as is required for such pieces by ministers, and No 10 had sought substantial edits, but not all of these were made, The Guardian reported.

Braverman was blamed by police and Labour for helping inflame tensions resulting in far-right groups battling police near the Cenotaph on Saturday, the news outlet further said.

She has also shared many posts on her social media platform X related to protests in the UK.

“The Prime Minister has asked me to serve as his Foreign Secretary and I have gladly accepted. We are facing a daunting set of international challenges, including the war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East. At this time of profound global change, it has rarely been more important for this country to stand by our allies, strengthen our partnerships and make sure our voice is heard,” said Former British PM David Cameron in his social media post on X.
