Prime Minister Narendra Modi today underscored India’s emergence as a pivotal player in global development and diversification, citing a surge in international confidence towards the nation. “When it comes to disruption, development and diversification, everybody can agree that this is India’s time”, the Prime Minister said. Reflecting on the heightened enthusiasm for India showcased at the Davos conference, Modi highlighted discussions framing India as an unprecedented economic success story, with its digital and physical infrastructure reaching unparalleled heights, and its dominance across various sectors globally.
Recalling a senior official likening India’s prowess to that of a ‘raging bull’, Modi emphasized the recognition accorded to India’s transformative journey over the past decade by development expert groups worldwide, signaling a burgeoning global faith in India’s potential. “Never before have we seen such positive sentiment regarding India’s potential and success in the world,” Modi remarked, harking back to his proclamation from the Red Fort – ‘This is the time, this is the right time’.
Addressing the ET Now Global Business Summit 2024 at New Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel, Modi highlighted the opportune juncture in India’s development trajectory, asserting that such phases lay the groundwork for enduring strength. “I see the same time for India today. This time period is unprecedented. In a way, the nation’s virtuous cycle has started,” Modi stated, underscoring the remarkable surge in growth rates, declining fiscal deficit, robust export performance, and controlled inflation, among other indicators.
Furthermore, Modi lauded the positive reception garnered by the recent Interim Budget, lauded by economic experts and journalists for its non-populist approach, attributing its success to its adherence to fundamental principles of stability, consistency, and continuity in policymaking.
Reflecting on the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Modi emphasized India’s prioritization of safeguarding lives, underlining the government’s efforts in procuring life-saving resources and raising awareness about the risks. He outlined initiatives such as free ration distribution for the impoverished, emphasis on domestically produced vaccines, and prompt vaccine availability. Modi highlighted the government’s comprehensive approach to addressing health and livelihood concerns, including direct benefit transfers, financial assistance to small entrepreneurs, and measures to address agricultural issues, all aimed at leveraging challenges into opportunities for growth.
