NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 24

The three new criminal laws- Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Act- slated to revamp India’s criminal justice system, will be enforced from July 1. The new laws approved by Parliament on December 21 and President Droupadi Murmu gave her consent on December 25.  According to notifications issued by the Union Home Ministry on February 23, the provisions of these laws will be implemented from July 1, replacing the antiquated colonial-era Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act of 1872.
