Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called for enhanced professionalism and due diligence from the Armed Forces while conducting operations, following a recent incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district. “Indian Army is not an ordinary army,” Singh told troops during a visit to the border areas on Wednesday. “The soldiers are our protectors. It is their duty to not only safeguard national interests, but also to win the hearts of the people,” he added.
He stressed the need for extra vigilance and zero tolerance for terrorism, urging Commanders to ensure operations are based on concrete intelligence and adhere to established procedures, supported by advanced technology. Singh emphasized the importance of strictly following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to avoid future incidents.
The Defence Minister acknowledged the recent incident as “unfortunate” and assured troops of the government’s unwavering support. He pledged that the nation will forever be indebted to their exceptional courage and sacrifice. Singh reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the Armed Forces, highlighting ongoing efforts to strengthen security and intelligence frameworks.
Singh’s visit included a first-hand assessment of the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) and ongoing counter-terror operations. He received detailed briefings on the existing security situation, counter-infiltration grid, and operational preparedness. Discussions with ground commanders focused on operational challenges and potential solutions.
Singh paid respects to soldiers killed in action and offered condolences to their families. He wished a speedy recovery to injured personnel and assured them of necessary support amidst the prevailing situation. Additionally, he met with families of deceased civilians in the affected village, promising a swift investigation and delivery of justice.
Expressing satisfaction with the unified efforts of security forces, civil administration, J&K Police, and other agencies, Singh commended the collaborative approach in restoring security and stability to the region. He praised local residents for their resilience and contribution to mainstream efforts, emphasizing the importance of collective unity and resolve for achieving peace and development in the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
Singh’s visit comes close on the heels of Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande’s trip to the area on December 25.
