Tamil Nadu, January 2
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government’s commitment on Tuesday, emphasizing that the growth of individual states forms the cornerstone of India’s overall development. In a speech delivered in Tamil Nadu, Modi underscored the symbiotic relationship between state and national progress, stating, “India will progress with the progress of Tamil Nadu.”
Highlighting connectivity as a catalyst for development, Modi affirmed that enhanced connectivity not only fuels economic growth but also enriches the lives of citizens. He extended New Year wishes to all while expressing his pleasure at commencing his public engagements in 2024 from Tamil Nadu.
The Prime Minister unveiled an array of development projects valued at over Rs 20,000 crores in Tiruchirappalli and Tamil Nadu. These initiatives span critical sectors such as railways, roadways, oil, gas, and shipping, poised to fortify Tamil Nadu’s growth trajectory.

Acknowledging the recent hardships faced by Tamil Nadu due to heavy rains causing loss of life and property, Modi conveyed his condolences and assured the state of comprehensive support from the central government.
Among the key initiatives, Modi highlighted the inauguration of the new terminal at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, significantly boosting its capacity and global connectivity. He emphasized the potential for increased investments, educational advancements, healthcare facilities, and tourism opportunities arising from this development.
The Prime Minister outlined the substantial investments made by India in various sectors over the past decade, emphasizing the government’s focus on bolstering physical infrastructure. India’s rise among the top five global economies and the influx of foreign investments were cited as pivotal achievements, benefiting Tamil Nadu and positioning it as a prime advocate for the Make in India initiative.
Modi detailed several railway and road projects aimed at fostering industrial growth and bolstering connectivity to prominent religious and tourist destinations in the region.
Emphasizing the port-led development strategy, the Prime Minister highlighted transformative projects designed to uplift coastal regions and support fishermen’s livelihoods. He underscored initiatives such as a dedicated ministry and budget for fisheries, schemes for boat modernization, and infrastructure advancements under the Sagarmala Yojna.
The speech culminated with Modi highlighting the substantial increase in government expenditure in Tamil Nadu over the past decade, citing significant funding directed towards state development across various sectors, benefitting countless families with essential amenities and services.
