Chandigarh, January 6
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday said that there will be no Republic Day parade hosted in any ground featuring synthetic tracks across the state. The announcement, made in a statement released today, emphasized that the Republic Day functions on January 26 will exclusively held in stadiums or grounds without synthetic athletic tracks.
Mann highlighted that these parades serve as a platform to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state and country through various tableaus and events. However, he expressed concern over the damage caused to synthetic tracks by the movement of vehicles and machinery during the parades, stating that such damage inconveniences athletes, which is unacceptable.
To mitigate this issue and prioritize the preservation of sports infrastructure, Mann stated that the government has deliberately decided against conducting Republic Day parades in stadiums with synthetic tracks. He affirmed that this decision aims to foster and promote sporting activities in the state.
In line with this decision, Mann specified that the Republic Day function scheduled in Ludhiana will also be relocated to the PAU. Stressing the government’s commitment to sports development and the protection of players and sporting infrastructure, Mann asserted that any compromise to these aspects is untenable.
Emphasizing the state’s commitment to uphold its legacy for future generations, Mann assured that these functions will be organized with a dedicated spirit focused on preserving the state’s illustrious heritage.
