In a major political development, Nayab Singh Saini took the oath as Haryana’s new Chief Minister on Tuesday, replacing Manohar Lal Khattar. Saini, hailing from Kurukshetra and known as a prominent leader of the OBC community, was earlier elected as the legislature party leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), prompted by Khattar’s resignation. ” Congratulations to Shri @NayabSainiBJP Ji on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Haryana. Wishing him and his team of Ministers the very best for their efforts in fulfilling the aspirations of the people of Haryana,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote in his post on X formerly known as Twitter.

In a surprise move, Khattar stepped down as Chief Minister of Haryana after a meeting with Governor Bandaru Dattatreya in the morning. Khattar, along with his entire Cabinet, submitted the resignations to the Governor in the aftermath of the BJP and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) failing to reach an agreement on seat-sharing arrangements for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the state. This development is of particular significance as the BJP had swept all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana during the 2019 general elections.
Five MLAs, comprising four from the BJP and one independent, were sworn in as ministers. Among the newly sworn-in MLAs are J P Dalal (Loharu segment), Ranjit Chautala (Rania), Mool Chand Sharma (Ballabhgarh), Kanwar Pal (Jagadhri), and Banwari Lal (Bawal). Notably, four JJP MLAs—Jogi Ram Sihag, Ishwar Singh, Davinder Babli, and Ram Niwas Surjakhera—also attended the oath-taking ceremony. However, Anil Vij, the former Home Minister was not included in the new cabinet.
BJP president JP Nadda and former CM ML Khattar also congratulate the new CM Nayab Singh Saini on social media platform X.
